Life’s Difficult Experiences
Life’s difficult, and sometimes painful, experiences present us with unique opportunities. Depending on how we view these experiences, we can to choose to learn and grow from them. Joanne Blum states the “edge experiences” make us feel frighten, uncomfortable, and confused. They can also make us awake, alert, with a sense of aliveness. Edge experiences can be places of great power. We stand at the beginning of transformation when we that we can tap into a greater power and experience the change we seek. Dr. Ernest Holmes informs us that the greatest enterprise of life is the conscious use of this power. We need to call on it and expect it to answer.
Dr. Holms has written: “We have the ability to transcend previous experiences and rise above them, but not while we go through old mental reactions.” If we seek change, we must change our thinking. I recently was reading a “Science of the Mind” Article that illustrates this thought. There was a man and woman on a plane. The man was complaining about the food and the delays. The lady next to him appeared happy with everything. When he asked how she could be so calm, she answered him that she had relocated for Sarajevo and had seen friends and relatives killed. She stated: “Food and delays don’t bother me. I have learned there are no bad days, only bad thoughts.”
Doesn’t that insight put life in perspective? The turning points in our lives often arise from the most painful experiences. It often takes courage to work through these moments. This courage comes from knowing that your Higher Power is always there. All you need to do is ask.
This idea was taken from “Science of the Mind” article.
